Versita Emerging Scholar Monograph Competition

In celebration of Open Access Week, academic publisher Versita has launched a competition for young scholars to have their work published and promoted (click here for a link to the competition page). 2012 Emerging Scholar Monograph Competition: Versita provides an opportunity for young scholars to publish books based on their dissertation research.


As a part of Open Access week celebration the scholarly publisher Versita is launching a competition for young scholars. The aim of this contest is to give an opportunity to promising researchers entering their academic career to have their work published and promoted by a professional Open Access publisher. The winning books will be distinguished by a stamp on the cover indicating “Grand Prize Winner of the 2012 Emerging Scholar Monograph Competition”.

Scholars who have received their Ph.D. between June 2009 and October 2012 are invited to submit book proposals based on their dissertation research  to Versita.  The proposed book should be a scholarly monograph, and the author should be able to deliver the entire manuscript by February 28th. 2013 at the latest. The winner will get his/her book published as part of Versita’s Open Access Books program. The book will be available as an open access publication as well as in print form in both paperback and hardcover. Submissions are invited from the following disciplines:

  • f) Defense, Security & Conflict Studies
  • g) Earth Sciences
  • h) Economics
  • i) Education
  • j) Engineering, Industry, Transportation
  • k) Environmental Studies
  • l) Geography
  • m) History, Archeology
  • n) Language, Literature
  • o) Law, Public Administration
  • p) Life Sciences
  • q) Management, Business, Finance
  • r) Mathematics, Statistics, Logic, System Science
  • s) Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health
  • t) Philosophy
  • u) Physics, Materials Science, Astronomy
  • v) Political Science
  • w) Psychology
  • x) Sociology

In order to take part in this competition please submit the following documents by November 23rd 2012:

  • a) Book Proposal form
  • b) 2-page CV
  • c) one sample chapter of the proposed book
  • d) scan of a document certifying receipt of the Ph.D.

The competition will have two stages: the first will be judged by the in-house Versita Jury, who will choose the three best submissions in each discipline to qualify to the semi-finals. At this stage all pre-selected proposals will be subject to external double blind peer-review procedure and will be sent to experts in each relevant field. The authors whose proposals receive the best reviews will be pronounced winners and their books will be published in 2013.
